Never fly Iberia!
August 11th, 2011 by Chris
You are probably wondering why. Recently I went to Madrid with my girlfriend to spend my birthday weekend there. Back in March we looked for some weekend getaways and Iberia had a good offer from flights from Amsterdam to Madrid, so we booked them straight away. Once we did the check in procedure, customs and all that, we found out there was a 1 hour delay. Ok, I can live with that and that can happen. Read the rest of this entry »
Also the return flight started with confusion. At check in counter they said we could use the VIP track for the customs procedure cause of my Qantas status (Iberia and Qantas are both in the OneWorld alliance). When it was our turn, we rudely got send back by the staff there. Also boarding was a big chaos with people simply not understanding the last rows and business class can board first. The staff didn’t do anything about that.
I had a similar experience last year when I flew to Gran Canaria. Iberia decided to change my return flight without any notification so I had to miss out on an entire day in the sun and spending time with family. I foud out they changed my flight when I wanted to check in online. This change resulted in a 8 hour wait at Madrid airport and staff were simply not interested and motivated to put me on an earlier flight.
So where are we now? It’s been close to 7 weeks now since I filled in the complaint form at the Iberia website. It was quite an adventure finding that. Makes me wonder why airlines always hide the complaint form so well on their website. Did I got a reply from Iberia already? Ofcourse not. I send the Iberia team a few messages on Twitter as well, but also no answer whatsoever. We also send Iberia a letter with the EU rules for compensation incase of a delay. Apparently customer service is a division that hasn’t been implemented yet in the Iberia organisation.
This made us decide never to fly with Iberia again. I rather fly a cheap low cost airline to any Iberia destination or have a zillion stopovers. I won’t be getting any miles and status credits then, but I rather have an airline with a tiny bit of customer service then no service at all like Iberia.
